Walter Englert, Managing Partner

Walter Englert holds a degree in Economic Geography and relies on more than 30 years of experience in the analysis and business development of African and Arabian markets. 
 
Between 1997 and 2014 he worked for the German Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (German-African Business Association), including over ten years as its Deputy Managing Director. Amongst other tasks, he was temporarily responsible for the department for North Africa, the department for West Africa as well as the department for Energy & Mining, which was set up under his management.
 
Prior to this, he spent several years in an academic career at the universities of Würzburg, Nürnberg and Bamberg, where he worked intensively on the development of manufacturing industries and investment promotion in North Africa as well as socio-economic developments in the Arab world.
 
Walter Englert has an excellent network in politics, associations, business and
industry in Germany, Europe and Africa. Additionally, he is a member of the
German-Arab-Friendship-Association (DAFG) Advisory Board,a member of the
Independent Advisory Council EMEA – Energy and Natural Resources at SAP AG
and vice president of the German-Tunisian Friendship Society.
 
In 2014 he founded E&P Focus Africa Consulting together with Tom Pause.
 

Tom Pause, Managing Partner

Tom Pause has been working in different management functions in the German foreign trade industry for the past 30 years, amongst other positions as Managing Director of Jos. Hansen & Soehne GmbH, and has successfully dealt with numerous African markets, both strategically and operationally.
 
He has extensive experience in B2B in different industries, including machine- and plant engineering, healthcare, and analytical and laboratory technology. Beyond that he also worked as consultant for international industrial and trading companies in different branches with an emphasis on strategy, sales, business development and a regional focus on Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
 
In this way, as well as through extended stays in Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia, Tom Pause was able to build up extensive networks in politics and business in Africa.
These are reflected in his honorary activities as Chairman of Africa Committee and
member of Committee of Foreign Trade, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce as well as
Member of the Board of the Afrika-Kollegium Hamburg e.V.
 
Tom Pause studied economics at the Universities of Witten/ Herdecke and
University of California, Berkeley and holds a degree in economics.
 
In 2014 he founded E&P Focus Africa Consulting together with Walter Englert.

 

Dr. Albrecht Conze, Senior Advisor 

In the course of over thirty years of service for Germany, the European Union and the United Nations, Albrecht Conze has gained a wealth of international experience. He has spent most of this century in Africa and has acquired deep knowledge of development issues and the parameters of success and failure.

While, on the political side, his focus has been on stabilization, peace keeping and peace building, he is now, both as a lawyer with Dentons Europe LLP, and as Senior Advisor with E&P Focus Africa Consulting, assisting German and international companies with their investments in Africa, and advising African governments on infrastructure projects.

Albrecht has been Germany’s ambassador to Benin (2006-2008), Zimbabwe (2008-2011) and Bangladesh (2012-2014)  and, most recently, Uganda (2017 - 2020).
He has held senior positions in two UN peacekeeping missions, in Kosovo and the DRC.
In 2014 he was tasked by the European Union to set up and lead a capacity building mission,
EUCAP Sahel Mali, for the reform of the security sector in Mali.  Educated at Freiburg,
Heidelberg, Geneva and Cambridge, Albrecht holds a doctorate in
International Law from Freiburg University. In 2011/2012 he spent an academic year at
Harvard as a Fellow of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

Dr. Michael Rabbow, Senior Advisor

Michael Rabbow is appointed doctor in General Medicine and holds a MSc degree in Community Health.

He has 30 years of working experience in the field of International Health with geographical focus on Africa and Asia. Until his retirement in April 2016 he was Team Leader with Corporate Public Affairs at the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, Germany. His responsibilities included access policy development, liaison with international, bilateral and national government institutions and development organisations.

Previous positions include Head of Dept. of Health Care at a German consulting agency and as Senior Researcher at the Dept. of Tropical Hygiene and Public Health at Heidelberg University. From 1991 to 1998 he was Chief Medical Officer at the Directorate of PHC and Nursing Services, Ministry of Health and Social Services in Windhoek, Namibia.

Michael Rabbow is the chairperson of the GIZ Private Sector Advisory Board and advisory board member of German Healthcare Partnership (GHP). He joined E&P Focus Africa Consulting as per 1st May 2016 as Senior Advisor on health topics in Africa.

Izebe Egwaikhide, Senior Consultant

Izebe Egwaikhide has more than 25 years working experience in the energy sector in Germany and West Africa. e.g. with E.ON/Uniper as Vice President LNG Business Development West Africa,  Business Development Manager for New Supply Regions, Head of LNG Procurement, Managing Director of the Nigerian subsidiary, project manager and consultant for energy trading and risk management.

He is Non-executive director of the Nigerian-German Business Association (NGBA) and Founder and Managing Director of Sutergy Limited in Lagos, Nigeria. Furthermore, he is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Power & Energy Society, IEEE Smart Grid Community, the VDE, VDE GMA, the Nigerian Gas Association (Corporate) and the African Renewable Energy Alliance amongst others. He has established an excellent network in Germany and West-Africa in the energy sector.

He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with a specialization in
automation from Dresden University of Technology, Germany.

Bunga Kiala, Senior Consultant

Bunga Kiala is a state certified electrical engineer, who has 20 years of experience working in the field of energy markets in Germany and Africa. From 1997 until 2007, he was project manager for the power utility company of the city of Karlsruhe, where he was responsible for low-, medium- and high-voltage network projects.

In 2007, he joined SebaKMT, a world market leader in measuring equipment and systems, as Sales Director for Africa. His responsibility included building the sales network across the continent and collaborating with water and power utilities in order to improve supply reliability. From 2014 until 2016, Bunga Kiala was representing Schneider Electric in Angola as Country president, establishing and managing the local subsidiary.

In 2016 he founded AFORI (SU) LDA in Angola, a company which executes energy projects with international partners, and became a freelance consultant for E&P Focus Africa Consulting GmbH.

Alan Mc Auley, Senior Consultant

Alan McAuley has more than 40 years of professional experience with hands on business development at all levels. He has been working and living in Africa and Asia for more than 35 years with specific geographical focus on Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana and Namibia.

He has been holding senior management positions with Trans National Groups in the field of foreign trade, Project development, Crisis management and Logistics. Further, he has been providing consultancy services to International, Regional and Local companies.

Alan McAuley holds a MBA in Foreign Trade and is a graduate of Oxford University’s Advanced Management program.

Laura Röntgen, Consultant

Laura Röntgen holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Cologne and an M.A. in Globalization and Development Studies from the University of Maastricht. Before joining E&P she gained work experience at GIZ and DEG, among others.

In recent years she has focused on the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and their business development on the African continent. She also dealt intensively with this topic in her master's thesis, which she wrote in cooperation with E&P. In this context, she also researched market entry strategies into the African market for various industries (energy, health care, construction). Furthermore, Laura Röntgen gained experience in the sustainable design of global supply chains with a regional focus on Africa and Asia.

Dr. Simón-Nadin Wenzel, Business Analyst

Simón-Nadin Wenzel has a doctorate in economic geography. Her research on South Africa and the other countries of the BRICS Alliance focused on various internationally active private companies in South Africa in the mining and supply industries as well as the logistics sector.

She has five years of experience in the analysis of strategic alliances for market entry, market development and differentiation against price competition in Southern Africa as well as in China, Brazil and India.

Simón-Nadin Wenzel is a graduate of the University of Merseburg (Business Administration) and holds a Master in African Development Studies from the University of Bayreuth. She has worked for the Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft e.V., among
others. From 1995 to 2012 she worked as a consultant for the currently largest German motor insurer.

Heike Brzoska, Office Management

Heike Brzoska supports the E&P team in office management with her many years of experience as secretary/ assistant in national and international management consultancies.
